Miles, in the last months of his life, hears the sounds of summer 1991 in New York City drifting in through his apartment windows. The resulting album, produced by Easy Mo Bee, sees Miles take surprisingly tentative steps for a man with so little to lose. The album, finished post-humously, fails to produce the genius that Davis came to exemplify. What if the curtain had not fallen so abruptly?
Had Davis not died, where would hip hop textures, breakbeats, sampling, wordplay have taken him? Speculative sonic fiction. What if? When did it happen? How was it constructed? Who were the collaborators? What was created? How do you trace a future that never came to pass? This album is an attempt to ask those questions, and create a world where such things are possible, if only for as long as a record lasts.
